Neogen's 6-Acetylmorphine (6-AM) ELISA (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay) drug test kit is a qualitative one-step kit designed for use as a screening device for the detection of drugs and/or their metabolites. The kit was designed for screening purposes and is intended for forensic use only.
6-AM Background
6-AM (a.k.a., 6-MAM and 6-monoacetylmorphine) is a definitive biomarker for heroin abuse. When heroin is ingested, it is rapidly metabolised into 6-AM and then more slowly into morphine. 6-AM is approximately six times more powerful than morphine. Heroin and its strong psychoactive effect is contributed to the combination of heroin, 6-AM and morphine.
Diacetylmorphine (heroin) → 6-Acetylmorphine (6-AM) → Morphine
Neogen has developed a 6-AM ELISA kit that offers ultra-sensitive and specific detection of the 6-AM metabolite. Neogen's 6-AM ELISA test kit has been validated for use in typical forensic matrices including urine, blood, serum and oral fluid. Contact a Neogen Representative for assistance with other forensic matrices.
